  • How much weight can I lose?
    • In a 68-week medical study involving 1,961 adults dealing with obesity or excess weight and related medical issues, the results varied. Adults, on average, lost about 35 pounds, which accounts for roughly 15% of their initial body weight. In comparison, those taking a placebo shed an average of 6 pounds, or approximately 2.5% of their starting weight. The starting weight for both groups averaged around 232 pounds. These findings originate from a 68-week medical investigation, including two groups: adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) and adults with excess weight (BMI ≥27) who also had weight-related medical problems like high blood pressure or high cholesterol. People with type 2 diabetes were not part of this study. Both groups received instructions to take the medication along with a reduced-calorie meal plan and increased physical activity. Notably, 7% of those taking Wegovy™ (92 individuals) left the study due to side effects, while only 3.1% of those on the placebo (20 individuals) did the same.
  •  How quickly can I expect to lose the weight?
    • The timeline for experiencing results can vary from person to person when it comes to medication. To get a clear understanding of what you can realistically expect, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider.
  • Am I able to travel with my medicine?
    • Certainly! When you’re traveling by air, it’s a good idea to keep your medication in your carry-on bag to prevent it from freezing in the plane’s cargo hold. Be sure to verify your airline’s specific baggage regulations as well.
  • Can I take it at any time of the day?
    • It is advisable to take it on the same day every week at a time that suits you best. Additionally, patients have reported less nausea if taken earlier in the day versus in the evening.
  • Can I change the day I take it?
    • You have the flexibility to switch the day of the week you take it, as long as your previous dose was administered with a gap of 2 days or more.
  • Does my insurance cover the weight loss program?
    • Unfortunately, elective weight loss is not covered by insurance but you can get in touch with your insurance provider directly to double check.
  • What do I do if I miss a dose?
    • No need to stress if you miss a dose and the next one is over 2 days (48 hours) away – just take the missed dose when you remember.
However, if you miss a dose and the next one is less than 2 days away, don’t take the missed dose. Just wait until your next scheduled dose.
If you happen to miss doses for more than 2 weeks, get in touch with your healthcare provider to discuss how to resume your treatment. You can go back to your regular dosing schedule for the next dose.
  • Do I need to eat before or after taking my medicine?
    • The choice is yours; you can take your medicine with or without food.
  • Are there any side effects?
    • Most patients do not experience any side effects when taking the medication. Some may experience mild side effects, such as indigestion, nausea, diarrhea and constipation, which can easily be treated with over the counter treatments.
